We live in troubled times. A global pandemic rages and kills. In the sort of situation that is supposed to unite us, the brutal and unjust actions of police in the United States and the resulting rage and protest have brought ideas about systemic racism, implicit bias, and inequality to the forefront of national attention. The mission of FutureScape is to build a better future. I founded this company only a few months ago to gain some real-world engineering experience. But FutureScape, since the idea of it came to me many years ago, was always meant to stand as a company that helps better this world. I firmly believe that the only acceptable future is an equal one for all people. Every one of us has an obligation to strive for such a world. So, I am announcing a new policy at FutureScape. Certain groups have been historically underrepresented in technical fields. We would like to do our small part in changing that. For the next five years, or while we are still operational, FutureScape will offer its services to any client that is in an underrepresented group in STEM fields for free. Our definitions of “underrepresented” are derived from the following source, but are also flexible to being expanded as the need arises: https://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2018/01/09/diversity-in-the-stem-workforce-varies-widely-across-jobs/
If you would like, you may leave a constructive comment about this policy. If you have suggestions for something that we might want to change, something you think we should add, etc. please let us know in the comments section below. We will remove comments that we deem to be inappropriate, with a warning. Thank you.
